Words of the Priest May 17th 2026

In a week, we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost, fifty days after the Lord’s Resurrection. It is then that the Lord Jesus sends His Holy Spirit to initiate the growth and consolidation of the Church. The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Most Holy Trinity. He is considered a person because He possesses will and consciousness—attributes that plants and animals do not have. The Spirit makes His presence felt in our life of faith, particularly through Baptism and Confirmation. He bestows seven gifts upon us at our Baptism; He also grants charisms—which are likewise gifts, though given only to some according to their capacity (such as singing, preaching, healing, or counseling; not everyone possesses them). Furthermore, He brings forth fruits found only in mature Christians—those of steadfast faith and great holiness. Love, peace, and joy are the first three of these fruits, followed by goodness, self-control, and others. Through this, you will gain a better understanding of the Holy Spirit.
