INDIFFERENCE.
Not to go into definitions of the word, we can give an example: the parable of the rich man who feasted, dressed, ate, and drank lavishly. And Lazarus ate the crumbs that fell from the rich man’s table. The rich man’s attitude describes what INDIFFERENCE is. If you read the parable carefully, at no point does it say that the rich man is bad, vicious, or perverse, no; none of that. What we can see in the rich man is that he didn’t see Lazarus, he ignored him; he didn’t care. Indifference lies in not caring about anything, as if the reality of the other didn’t exist. I don’t harm him directly; in fact, I don’t even realize that the other is standing next to me. Indifference is, in short: I DON’T CARE WHAT’S HAPPENING AROUND ME. That’s why we don’t greet others, we don’t smile, we don’t cooperate, or we show solidarity; That’s why we’re cold, dry, and hard. We care about what’s ours, not about what’s other people’s. The important thing is to feel good, to be comfortable, and to enjoy as much as possible, while we can. That’s why charity isn’t practiced in many places. BECAUSE WE DON’T CARE! You can’t be a Christian like that.
