In the month of June, the Church celebrates several very important solemnities and feasts in its liturgical calendar. Just as the civil calendar marks occasions like Independence Day and Mother’s Day, the Church has its own special observances. One of these is the Nativity of John the Baptist. John the Baptist is the precursor of Jesus Christ and was the last and greatest of the prophets; he concludes the line of prophets that began with Elijah, heralds the consolation of Israel, and came as a witness to testify to the Light.
