Worldwide, the Mass has become an activity of tradition, not of the conviction of a living faith, left by our Lord Jesus Christ. Some think the Mass was an invention of some bishops or clergymen in the 15th century; they think this way because they don’t know history or the Bible. And among those who think this way are millions of Catholics. Sunday Mass has become just another Sunday event, like going out to eat or shopping.
The Mass was instituted by Jesus of Nazareth himself, in the first century, in the year 33. To be celebrated until his second coming. As a restatement of his death on the cross. It was his way of being with us until the end of the world. We are not alone; we should not feel abandoned or forgotten by God. He is present at every Mass; we can speak to Him and eat with Him, to establish greater communion with Him. But we have lost faith, and we see the Mass as a boring ritual that, instead of encouraging us and filling us with hope, frustrates us.
We have Mass, thank God; we have Christ among us every Sunday. But many ignore Him.
May you not see the Mass as just another episode in your Sunday schedule. May you enjoy Christ who loves you and always accompanies you.
