Words of the Priest 08/10/2025

VOCATION:
This word means CALL. And it specifically refers to the call that God makes to both men and women to a consecrated life; whether to the priesthood in the case of men or to religious life in the case of women. Only 60 or 70 years ago, seminaries and convents were full. Men and women decided to say yes to God; they chose to leave their normal or ordinary lives to embrace a life for God. Today, seminaries and convents are practically deserted.
What has happened? Could it be that God no longer calls?
God continues to call, every day, but young people don’t want to listen; they dismiss the call. They find it pointless to consecrate their lives to God, to the Gospel, to the salvation of souls. In fact, many young people are part of Catholic groups in their parishes; they are part of church movements; they actively collaborate in parishes, etc. But very few, very few, make the decision to respond affirmatively to God for life as a priest or nun, as they are colloquially called.
In another article in WORDS FROM THE PARISH PRIEST, we will analyze why there are no more vocations.
Happy Sunday.
