Light Christianity, or decaffeinated or watered down Christianity, is that which demands nothing, which accepts almost everything; which doesn’t make many commitments and which gets upset when people talk about sin, conversion, damnation, hell, etc. After the 1960s, and more specifically in the 1970s, the preaching and teachings of the Church changed. We’ll give some examples: the Mass stopped being the bloodless sacrifice of Jesus (bloodless means without blood) and became a dinner among friends, where everyone happily shares with Jesus; we stopped talking about sin and began to talk about human error or failure; we stopped talking about conversion and began to talk about acceptance; we stopped talking about confession of sin and began to talk about a spiritual dialogue with the priest. In other words, the priest stopped being a minister of the Church and became a psychologist; we stopped talking about hell so that people wouldn’t be scared, and then we’d all go to heaven; The cassock was abandoned, and jeans and sports shirts were worn so that people would be closer to the priest, etc. All these changes were made so that people, Catholics, would be closer to the Church; so that young people would feel more comfortable attending Mass and in parish groups, and thus a springtime of faith and ecclesial life could be experienced. The result of all these changes: a true calamity. There were no good fruits, quite the opposite: loss of faith, loss of piety, loss of commitment, lack of pastoral zeal on the part of priests, and lack of respect for the clergy by lay people; scandals on the part of priests; changes in two-thousand-year-old doctrine to things the Church had never taught. And the worst of all these changes is that, given this undeniable reality, no one can say anything because they will point to someone who divides the Church. WE ALL HOPE THAT AT THE NEXT CONCLAVE A POPE WILL BE ELECTED WHO WILL CONFIRM OUR FAITH AND NOT CONFUSE IT.
WE ALL PRAY FOR POPE FRANCIS THAT HE REST IN THE PEACE OF THE LORD.
